McHENRY, MD – Southern Garrett High standout Brandon Lucas, prepping for his senior season with the Rams, has signed a letter of intent to start his collegiate career locally with Garrett College's baseball program.
"I chose Garrett to stay close to home, and because of their outstanding baseball program and what they offer as far as their physical education program," said Lucas of his reasons for choosing the Lakers, who finished third in the NJCAA Region XX Division II tournament last spring.
"Brandon fits the mold here," said GC head baseball coach Eric Hallenbeck. "He's a blue-collar kid who is not afraid to compete and get after it."
Hallenbeck said he is impressed with Lucas' athletic and personal strengths.
"He's a quality individual with a lot of athletic ability," said Hallenbeck of Lucas. "He has a tremendous upside. If we can develop his baseball skills where I think they can be, he will be very productive for us."
Lucas will be joining a Laker program that knocked off three higher-seeded opponents in last spring's regional tournament and nearly reached the region finals.
