David Wingate enters his third season as the Head Wrestling Coach at Garrett College, continuing to build a nationally competitive program grounded in toughness, integrity, and academic achievement.

In just two seasons at the helm, Coach Wingate has led the Lakers to impressive success on and off the mat. During the 2024–2025 season, the team posted a 10-5 dual meet record and was ranked in the top 15 nationally at one point in the season—highlighting the program’s growing national presence.

Under his leadership, Garrett College has produced 15 NJCAA national qualifiers, demonstrating a consistent ability to develop and prepare athletes for elite-level competition. The team also finished in the top three at the Gulf Atlantic District National Qualifier Tournament in each of the past two seasons, reinforcing their competitive status within the region.

Equally committed to academic excellence, Coach Wingate’s team earned the 12th highest team GPA in the nation for the 2024–2025 academic year and boasts a total of 9 NWCA Scholar All-Americans during his tenure.
