With the absence of two starters in their lineup, the Garrett Lakers wrestling split two dual matches on the road this weekend losing to Niagara County Community College 37-9, then upsetting Jamestown Community College 27-19.
Against Niagara, the Lakers did not have their best day on the mat. However, Brady Villa (Saxton, PA), Craig Erwin (Annapolis, MD), and Noah Korenoski (Johnstown, PA) rounded out the scoring for the Lakers with all winning by decision.
A short 2-hour bus trip later, the Lakers took on Jamestown Community College. Jamestown opened the scoring with wins at 125, 133, 141. Trailing 0-11 the Craig Erwin (Annapolis, MD) got the Lakers on the board with a 1st period pin at 149. After dropping a SV at 157, Noah Korenoski earned a decision at 165 to make the score 9-14. After Jamestown technical fall at 174, and trailing 9-19, the Lakers went on a pinning spree. Declan McCann (Oakland, MD) 184, Loic Tueguo (Columbia, MD) 197, and Connor Saladin (Annapolis, MD) 285, carried the Lakers to the finish line with a comeback 27-19 win. This ends the Lakers regular season and the Lakers now prepare for the NJCAA National tournament April 21-22 in Council Bluffs, IA. All match results for can be found on www.trackwrestling.com.
