Perez de Castro lifts Garrett women over PSC

McHenry, MD – Manuela Perez de Castro broke a 56-56 tie with consecutive jumpers Monday night as Garrett College posted a 63-58 women's basketball victory over host Potomac State College of West Virginia University.

 

Perez de Castro finished with 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Lady Lakers improved to 7-3 with their second straight win.

 

Da'shai Morton-Hall (five rebounds, three assists) scored a game-high 14 points for the Lady Lakers, who avenged a 72-69 loss to the Catamounts last month. Hailey Newsome added 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while Renee Timbers contributed 10 points and a team-high four assists.

 

Brylee Wetzel scored a team-high 13 points while PSC teammates Elizabeth Pryor, Hannah Ault, and Ericka Zirk added 10 points apiece.

 

Garrett 67, Catonsville 60

 

Catonsville, MD – Janiya Burton scored a game-high 22 points and Renee Timbers added 17 as the Lady Lakers overcame an early deficit last Thursday to notch the win.

 

Catonsville built a 17-13 after a quarter, but Garrett outscored the Cardinals, 41-27, in the middle two stanzas to take a 54-44 lead into the final quarter.

 

Da'shai Morton-Hall contributed eight points and a game-high five steals for the Lady Lakers. Manuela Perez de Castro hauled in a team-high seven rebounds to go along with four steals  and  four points.

Maleyah Bell (21 points, six rebounds, three steals), Jayda Mayles (15 points, five rebounds, two blocks), and Serafina Stubbs (12 points, six rebounds) all scored in double figures for Catonsville. Cardinal Jocelyn Fogle had a game-high nine rebounds and tallied nine points.

 

The victory avenged GC's 49-36 loss to the Cardinals in last year's region tournament semifinals.
