Fluhart's gem extends Lakers season

Justin Fluhart pitched a complete game five hit shutout to beat CCBC-Catonsville 8-0 on the campus of Catonsville on Wednesday afternoon. The game was called after seven innings due to the eight run rule after seven innings in the Region XX playoffs. Garrett jumped out on top in the first as leadoff hitter Tim Hanible was hit by a pitch and stole second. Peyton Carr sacrificed Hanible to third and Juan Pinero drove him in with a sac fly to make it 1-0. The Lakers made it 2-0 as Quintin Smith swung and missed on an apparent strikeout but the ball went to the backstop with Smith reaching first base. It was ruled that he fouled the pitch off. Two pitches later Smith blasted a solo homerun over the left centerfield wall. Garrett scored four runs in the top of the third when Hanible led off with a single, stole second and Pinero singled to drive him in to make it 3-0. After an infield single by Tanner George, Brandon Lucas smacked a home run to right field to extend the Laker lead to 6-0. Eli Hott added a sac fly in the fifth and Johnson added a RBI single in the 7th to finish the scoring. Fluhart, who struck out nine batters while walking none picked up his third win of the year. "Fluhart came up big for us today", said Head Coach Eric Hallenbeck. "He had command with all of his pitches and got ahead of hitters all day. We manufactored the first two of the three runs with Tim getting on base and then Lucas' home run gave us some breathing room. We are advancing. Can't ask for anything else this time of year. Now we have to try and figure out how to solve the Chesapeake riddle. They have beating us three times. Two games we were never in it. Hopefully today gives us a little momentum", added Hallenbeck. The win sets up a rematch against Chesapeake College on Friday in Wye Mills, MD. #1 Chesapeake was upset by #2 Frederick 15-5. On Monday, the Skip Jacks throttled the Lakers 13-2. Game time is at 1pm.
