The Garrett College Baseball team swept a pair of games from CCBC-Dundalk on Sunday 4-3 and 6-1 at the Diamond at the Lake. With the wins it secures the four seed for the Lakers in the Region XX playoffs. The Lakers will await the winner of the 5/8 seed match up on Saturday May 8th and play on Sunday May 9th in McHenry, MD. In game one, Michael Joyce threw 5.1 innings, scattering six hits giving up two runs while striking out nine Dundalk batters. Joyce was in a jam early, giving up back to back singles and back to back walks to plate a run in the first. Joyce then struck out the side to end the threat. In the bottom of the first, the Lakers used a wild pitch and a RBI ground out by Colby Johnson to take a 2-1 lead after one. In the third, the Lakers extended their lead with a RBI double by Tanner George to score Tim Hanible. A solo home run by Lions shortstop Nick White cut the Laker lead to 3-2. After a lead off double by Joey Perfette in the 6th, an infield single by Quintin Smith and Hanible's hit by pitch, the Lakers scored on a RBI ground out by Peyton Carr to make it 4-2. Kelan Hoover who relieved Joyce to get out of a jam in the 6th, walked the first batter he faced in the 7th. After recording two outs, a stolen base and a wild pitch later the score was 4-3. Hoover struck out the last Lion to preserve the win for the Lakers. In game two, facing a 1-0 deficit, the Lakers scored three runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Eli Hott, a wild pitch and an error to put the Lakers up 3-1. An RBI double in the fifth by Juan Pinero scored Tim Hanible to push the lead to 4-1. A sac fly by Cody Eyler and a two out single by Hanible made the score 6-1. Laker starter Bradie Moore picked up his sixth win of the year. Throwing six innings, giving up one run on five hits while striking out seven Lions. Pat Bart finished the game in the seventh. The Lakers are 27-20 overall and will be back in action as they face Potomac State in McHenry, MD for a doubleheader starting at 12pm. .
