Garrett earns sweep v.s. Montgomery

The Garrett College baseball team hit seven home runs on the day and received solid pitching performances from Michael Joyce and Pat Bart to sweep Montgomery College 11-1 and 13-4 on Saturday afternoon at the Diamond at the Lake. In game one, the Lakers broke open a 5-1 game in the bottom of the fifth when Nate Darwin hit a three-run home run and Tanner George hit the next pitch for a solo home run to extend the Laker lead to 9-1. That was more than enough for Joyce who threw six innings, giving up four hits, one unearned run while striking out eight Raptors. Quintin Smith had a RBI double, Peyton Carr had two RBI's and George scored three runs. 

In game two, the Lakers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Quintin Smith hit the first pitch he saw over the left centerfield wall to lead off the game. Three batters later, Colby Johnson had a three-run blast to make the score 4-0. After a double by Brandon Lucas, Kyle Armistead and Tanner George went back to back to extend the lead to 7-0. Juan Pinero joined the barrage and hit a grand slam to make it 11-0. In all, the Lakers sent 14 batters to the plate, had nine hits and five homeruns in the first inning. Pat Bart picked up the win in relief, throwing four innings, giving up one run, on one hit while striking out three. Smith and Pinero finished with three hits each. Armistead, George and Peyton Carr finished with two hits each. The Lakers improve to 13-8 overall, 3-1 in Region XX DII games and 3-3 in MDJUCO. Montgomery falls to 4-2 on the year. The Lakers will be back in action as they head to Cecil College for a doubleheader on Friday April 2nd and Anne Arundel on Saturday April 3rd.
