Coach Chambers was hired at Garrett College on November 1, 2017 becoming the first ever head wrestling coach in Garrett College and MDJUCO history.  During his first year, Coach Chambers recruited and put together the foundation for which the Garrett College Wrestling program would be built from the ground up.

Garrett College had numerous successes throughout the first year of competition during the 2018-2019 season. The year culminated in Garrett College’s first ever Eastern District II champion, Jordan Day (157), and a total of 6 wrestlers qualifying for the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships.  The other qualifiers were: Jake Sweitzer (133), Davy Mundey (165), Austin Dyson (174), Chris Estrada (184), and Tanner Clark (197).  Tanner Clark made the biggest splash at the national tournament making the Round of 16.

The 2019-2020 season showed no let ups as the Lakers defeated NCAA Division II Fairmont State University the very first weekend of the season.  Coach Chambers added a big-time assistant coach to his staff with the hiring of Tanner Cahill.  Chambers said, “a program can only be as good as the people you surround it with.  Any program and any head coach will tell you, we are at the level we are at because of our assistant coaches.  Tanner Cahill has been a great addition to our program.”  The Lakers finished the year strong with multiple wrestlers placing in the USCAA National Invitational with Davy Mundey capturing the 174-pound title.  Tanner Clark would become the second Eastern District II champion in school history winning the 285-pound weight class.  Five more Lakers would qualify for the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships bringing Garrett College’s national qualifier total to 11 national qualifiers.

Chambers stated, “it is a great feeling to see our wrestlers and our coaching staff’s hard work pay off and be able to see your guys compete on the national stage.  These wrestlers took a chance on Garrett College and we will be forever grateful for all of them that helped start our program.  The program will continue to grow because of them.”

Coach Chambers resides in Accident, MD with his lovely wife Tonya and two wonderful children Lily (13) and Jacob (11).
