Dale Luy helped to restart the Garrett College cross country program in 2019 and looks forward to using his extensive coaching experience to grow the program. Luy has over forty years of cross country and track and field coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. His teams have won high school championships – Mid Penn divisional and overall Class AAA; and at the collegiate level – Mason Dixon Conference. Personal development of the student-athlete is a trademark of Coach Luy. His athletes have won numerous Pennsylvania district and state medals. At the collegiate level he guided his Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams to 18 NCAA DIII national championship appearances in 12 years. Athletes competing at those championships earned 12 All-American honors, including a five time national champion and national record holder. Luy likes to point out that in the term “student-athlete” the word student comes first. His teams and student-athletes have earned numerous academic honors, including a prestigious Rhodes Scholar honor while coaching at Elizabethtown College. In addition to working with the cross country team, Dr. Luy teaches sport management at Garrett College.
